Upon Phoenix Terrace at Jinling by Li Bai
Phoenix Terrace once phoenixes roamed to and fro,
The birds gone, the terrace bare, the waters still flow.
O’ergrown weeds bury old footpaths and halls of Wu,
Lords in noble hats and robes of Jin lie below.
Three mountains half-hidden amidst the azure skies,
Two rivers split White Egret Isle as forth they throw.
For none but frivolous clouds float to blind the sun,
Alas, Chang’an beyond me, how bitter my woe.
