川： How about the Taiwan Strait?

习： 那是中国海峡。

川： Really? Maybe the Persian Gulf should be the next American Gulf. I've already got one in my backyard.

川： That used to be true. Now a battle goes viral in thirty seconds. Battlefield transparency doesn't care about your long-term relationships.

习： 所谓透明， 未必即是客观。

川： Sure. But wreckage is objective. Wreckage doesn't spin.

习： 川总此番出击， 莫非意在借机动摇我方军贸之诚信？

川： I never waste a good opportunity. Never have, never will.

习： 军贸之竞赛， 不应恶化为地缘之争。

川： I beg to differ.

习： 川爷竟有所乞求？

川： Your translator is feeding you lines you want to hear. Fire him. What I said was: the status quo is everything, which means today, tomorrow, and the day after. Are we clear?

习： 明白了。 现状即一切，今日如是，未来亦如是。 好一个未来。不过，一旦中期选举不利，川总不就是只跛脚鸭？跛到任期屆满？

川： A week is a long time in politics. Don't count me out, and don't count on me either.
