A classic example of when chaos is made the only solution is death.

Not because of the person who made the chaos, Nor the events, but because of the people's mentality of not being able to live without trust.

But when you can't make common sense of who to trust, you yourself become your own enemy and become used by others, And end up fighting your allies rather than enemies.

Which can be seen clearly with suspicions without proof, yet they are willing to fight for something they don't even know.

Especially whenever one has a chance, one should agree with their enemy quickly before there are too many. Sun Tzu said this as well. Also, it says in the Bible it is better to have stability and security than risks. Especially when the entire time Scipio was used, he was never trusted, and thus the people he was under always considered him an enemy even if they used him as an ally.

No happy ending in this one. It's grim all the way through. Burt in his old age could still run miles around younger men and he still had a touch of his circus performer athleticism. There were a couple of holes in the  plot. He's shot in the side during that hell of a chase scene and then there's no follow up about how he was treated.
