11.5 尧皇探亲 White-king Yao Visits Aoqin

尧皇（如图11.5-1）登基一年后，在朝堂上，她忽然发现龙国的朝臣来的很少，就问：“这么多人去海南岛探亲！他们都有亲属是政治犯，就你们几个没有。”

One year after White-king Yao ascended the throne, she suddenly noticed in the imperial court that few ministers from the Dragon Kingdom were present. She asked, “So many have gone to visit relatives on Hainan Island! They all have family members who are political prisoners—are you few the only ones without?”

那几个龙国的旧部回答：“我们也有亲戚在海南，但不能同时都去啊！他们回来之后，我们再去。我们并不担心在海南的亲戚过的不好。现在海南岛的经济发展得也挺好，已经是南海周边国家的贸易中心了。这几年我们遵纪守法，清正廉洁，怕华国和夏国对我们龙国有意见，耽误了 您的‘三足鸟计划’ （即华国，夏国，和龙国合并成为中华共和国）的实施。最近，我们忽然发现我们是有钱人了！现在的物价便宜，钱值钱；我们居然还负担得起旅游了。现在我们的华夏大地，也包括我们龙国，每年的GDP增长率都是两位数。我们这点钱留着没什么用，就都想起去海南探亲旅游了。”

The former Dragon Kingdom officials replied, "We also have relatives in Hainan, but we can't all go at once! We'll go after they return. We're not worried our relatives in Hainan are struggling. Hainan Island's economy is developing quite well now, and it has become a trade center for countries surrounding the South China Sea. These past years, we've followed the law and remained upright and incorruptible, fearing Hua Country and Xia Country might harbor grievances against our Dragon Kingdom and delay the implementation of your ‘Three-Legged Bird Plan’ (That is, Hua Kingdom, Xia Kingdom, and Dragon Kingdom merged to form the Republic of China.). Recently, we suddenly realized we're rich! Prices are cheap now, and money is worth more; we can even afford to travel. Hua and Xia’s lands, including our dragon nation, is growing at double-digit GDP rates every year. There's not much point in keeping this little bit of money, so we've all started thinking about visiting relatives and traveling to Hainan.”

尧皇就和他们聊起了谁去探望谁，他们是什么关系。随后，尧皇就不高兴了，说：“没人去看望我哥哥（熬钦，如图3）！那等他们回来后，咱们一起去海南吧！”

White-king Yao then chatted with them about who visited whom and their relationships. Afterwards, White-king Yao became displeased and said, "No one visits my brother (Note 2)! Let's go to Hainan together after they get back!"

据说从那些政治犯自愿地去了海南开始，二郎神（如图2）就开始给他们送简报。这种简报亦作白皮书，就是国家向高级官员通报国家大事。熬钦他们非常乐见那些简报，为此南海龙王为简报造了一座图书馆。

It is said that from the moment those political prisoners voluntarily went to Hainan, Second Wolf God (see fig. 2) began sending them briefings. These briefings, also known as white cover books, were reports from the state to high-ranking officials on important national affairs. Aoqin and his people were very pleased with these briefings, and the Dragon King of the South China Sea even built a library for them.

当尧皇的信使向南海龙王传达尧皇要到海南探望他时，转告了二郎神对海南政治犯探亲规定的调整。允许海南政治犯来到广东海岸迎接亲戚朋友，但不许下船，踏上大陆的土地。如果那些政治犯想参观大陆，可以向广东政府提出申请。广东政府将派出官员陪同他们参观广东。如果政治犯想返回老家看看，需要向中国政府申请，政治局将派出专人陪同他们返乡。

When White-king Yao's messenger conveyed to the Dragon King of the South Sea that Emperor Yao intended to visit him in Hainan, he relayed the message to Second Wolf God regarding adjustments to the regulations for Hainan political prisoners' family visits. Hainan political prisoners were permitted to come to the Guangdong coast to greet their relatives and friends but were not allowed to disembark or set foot on the mainland. If these political prisoners wished to visit the mainland, they could apply to the Guangdong government. The Guangdong government would then send officials to accompany them on their tour of Guangdong. If the political prisoners wished to return to their hometowns, they needed to apply to the Chinese government, and the Politburo would send a special envoy to accompany them on their return journey.

尧皇的信使又强调说：“尧皇非常忙！武汉距离海南几千公里远，正常的旅行要花费三个月的时间。尧皇是将军出身，她的队伍行进速度快，那也需要一个半到两个月的时间。皇帝海航的安全规范还没做出来，但估计尧皇做船越过琼州海峡需要半个月到一个月的时间。”

经过两天的慎重考虑，南海龙王回答说：“我愿意去香港迎接尧皇。”

The messenger from Emperor Yao emphasized, "White-king Yao is extremely busy! Wuhan is thousands of kilometers away from Hainan, and a normal journey would take three months. White-king Yao is a general by profession, and her entourage moves at a fast pace, but it would still take one and a half to two months. The safety regulations for the emperor’s naval voyages have not yet been finalized, but it is estimated that it will take White-king Yao half a month to a month to cross the Qiong’zhou Strait by ship."

After two days of careful consideration, the Dragon King of the South Sea replied, "I am willing to go to Hong Kong to welcome Emperor Yao."

传说，当时香港地区的县长李家超去港口迎接南海龙王，在码头等待了三天三夜。龙王没有按照日程的安排，下船去休息。李家超上船去问： “您老怎么不下船啊？”

南海龙王回答：“我妹妹成为了中华共和国的第一位皇帝；二郎神是她的第一功臣。我和二郎神打仗一辈子了。我若登岸溜达溜达，那就得麻烦你们去向二郎神汇报。”

Legend says it that when Hong Kong's county prefect, Jia’chao Li, went to the port to welcome the Dragon King of the South Sea, he waited at the pier for three days and three nights. Dragon King did not disembark as scheduled to rest. Jia’chao Li boarded the boat and asked, "Why aren't you getting off the boat, Your Majesties!?"

The Dragon King of the South Sea replied, “My sister became the White-king Creator (皇帝) of Republic of China; Second Wolf God was her greatest contributor. I’ve fought Second Wolf God my whole life. If I were to come ashore for a stroll, I’d have to trouble you to report to Second Wolf God.”

李家超回答：“我们不觉得麻烦，愿意聆听二郎神的教诲！”

南海龙王回答：“我不愿意！二郎神听了你们的汇报，他得想几天，几夜睡不好！让他睡个好觉吧！”

传说，龙王在船上等了两周，尧皇才到达香港，去到船上和他会面。

Jia’chao Li replied, “We don’t mind the trouble; we’re willing to listen to Second Wolf God’s teachings!”

The Dragon King of the South Sea replied, “I do mind! After hearing your report, Second Wolf God will be thinking about it for days and spending a few sleepless nights! Let him get a few good nights’ rest!”

Legend says it that the Dragon King waited on the ship for two weeks before Emperor Yao arrived in Hong Kong and went aboard to meet him.

 

11.6 竹林聚会 Bamboo Grove Gathering

一天娥黄和女婴各自带着丈夫和孩子坐船到江北小龙女（即夏娃，织女，舜王，嫘祖）家做客。这时小龙女和牛郎已经有了两个私生子，尘香，尘凡。他们进入客厅后，很快女婴的丈夫男婴就出来到了厨房，问牛郎：“怎么牛哥你自己做饭呢？佣人呢？”

牛郎回答：“在这个家，我是佣人。”

One day, Beauty Yellow and Heroine each brought their husbands and children by boat to visit the Little Dragoness (aka. Eve, Weaving Girl, Shun King, Lei Ancestor) in Yangzi River north. At this time, Little Dragoness and Cowboy already had two illegitimate children, Dust Scent and Dust Mortal. After entering the living room, Heroine's husband, Hero, soon came out to the kitchen and asked Cowboy, “How come you're cooking by yourself, Brother Cow? Where's the servant?”

Cowboy replied, “In this household, I am the servant.”

随后，娥黄的丈夫博士也来到了厨房，帮助牛郎做饭。男婴问博士：“你在家也做饭吗？”

博士回答：“是的，我在家也做饭。我和鹅黄刚结婚的时候，她说我们俩一起做饭，培养夫妻感情，结果我就被她培养成了家里的厨师了。”

男婴醒悟了，说：“我才明白为什么女婴总是夸我做的菜好吃。这三个母老虎，咱的想办法整整她们。”

Then, Beauty Yellow's husband, Doctor, also came to the kitchen to help Cowboy cook. Hero asked the Doctor, "Do you cook at home too?"

Doctor replied, "Yes, I cook at home too. When Beauty Yellow and I first got married, she said we should cook together to cultivate our relationship, and as a result, she cultivated me into the family chef."

Hero suddenly realized and said, "Now I understand why Heroine always praises my cooking. These three tigresses, we need to find a way to deal with them."

不久后，男婴想起了女婴怕老鼠（参见10.16 《女人怕老鼠》）就问牛郎：“牛哥，你家有老鼠吗？”

牛郎回答：“屋里没有，后山西北角有几个田鼠洞。”

博士表示反对用田鼠吓唬女英，说：“田鼠被逼急了，也会咬人的！”

男婴回答：“驯服了，就不咬人了！” 博士就跟着男婴去学习如何驯服田鼠了。

Soon after, Hero remembered that Heroine was afraid of mice (see 10.16 Women are Afraid of Mice) and asked Cowboy, “Brother Cow, do you have mice in your house?”

Cowboy replied, “Not inside, but there are a few mouse holes in the northwest corner of the west hill.”

Doctor objected to using mice to frighten Heroine, saying, “When cornered, mice will bite too!”

Hero replied, “Once they're tamed, they won't bite anymore!” So, Doctor followed Hero to learn how to tame field mice.

不久后，男婴和博士高兴地带着田鼠回来了。他们三人计划好后进入了客厅，牛郎拿出了另一种茶叶，博士给茶壶添热水。忽然听见男婴大叫。原来男婴放到女婴身上一只田鼠后，装作去抓地上的另一只田鼠，却发现女婴叼着她身上的田鼠，还要抢男婴手里的田鼠。男婴慌忙地抢她嘴叼着的田鼠；女婴不放口。

Soon after, Hero and Doctor happily returned with the field mice. After making their plans, the three entered the living room. Cowboy took out another type of tea leaves, and Doctor refilled the teapot with hot water. Suddenly, Hero let out a cry. It turned out that after placing one field mice on Heroine, he pretended to grab other mice on the floor. Instead, he found Heroine clutching the mice on her body and trying to snatch the one in his hand. Hero frantically tried to take the mouse from her mouth, but she refused to let go.

娥黄赶了过来，大叫：“不要吓唬男婴！” 小龙女说：“猫怕风，我吹她的耳朵！” 男婴也跟着吹女婴的另一只耳朵。

这三个男人回到厨房后，博士认为：“我们的秘密计划被她们发现了，她们已经设计好了反制措施！下次，我们得注意保密！”

Beauty Yellow rushed over, shouting, “Don't scare Hero!” Little Dragoness said, “Cats are afraid of wind—I'm blowing in her ear!” Hero followed suit, blowing into Heroine's other ear.

After the three men returned to the kitchen, Doctor concluded, "They've discovered our secret plan, and they've already devised a countermeasure! Next time, we need to be more careful about secrecy!"

忽然博士和男婴来找牛郎，说：“孩子们在湖边玩泥巴，由佣人照看着；三个女人不见了！”

牛郎回答：“她们在山腰的竹林里休息！”他转脸问博士：“娥黄最怕什么？”

博士回答：“娥黄怕狗，但你家没狗哇！”

Suddenly, Doctor and Heroine came to find Cowboy, saying, “The children are playing in the mud by the lake, watched over by the servants; but the three women are gone!”

Cowboy replied, “They're resting in the bamboo grove halfway up the mountain!” He turned to ask Doctor, “What does Beauty Yellow fear most?”

Doctor answered, “Beauty Yellow fears dogs, but you don't have any dogs at home!”

牛郎回答：“我来当狗，去吓唬她们！这次可不能让她们事先察觉到！你们俩先别去，听到狗叫在跑过去！”

他们三个来到了后山腰的竹林，那三个女人果然在竹林里休息。牛郎穿上蓑衣带着斗笠爬到了娥黄睡的竹床附近。

竹林里忽然传出了狗叫声和娥黄的尖叫声。博士和女婴跑进了竹林，看见娥黄坐在一张竹床上上下大幅度地颠簸着。他们俩还在琢磨娥黄是怎样让床上下地颠的。

Cowboy replied, “I'll be the dog and scare them! This time, they mustn't sense us beforehand! You two stay put for now—only run over when you hear the dog barking!”

The three of them arrived at the bamboo grove halfway up the mountain, where the three women were indeed resting. Cowboy, wearing a straw raincoat and hat, climbed to the vicinity of the bamboo bed where Beauty Yellow was sleeping.

Suddenly, the sounds of dogs barking and Beauty Yellow screaming echoed from the bamboo grove. Doctor and Heroine ran into the grove and saw Beauty Yellow sitting on a bamboo bed, bouncing violently up and down. They were still wondering how Beauty Yellow had managed to make the bed bounce so much.

娥黄说：“看什么？这床自己就动起来了，我不知道如何让它停下来。赶快帮我下床，我都晕了。”

博士和男婴才明白过来：原来是这床的机械出故障了！两人赶忙到床的两边找开关。女婴怕博士出丑，就跑了过来，把娥黄抱下了床。

Beauty Yellow said, "What are you looking at? This bed started moving by itself, and I don't know how to stop it. Quickly help me get off the bed; I'm dizzy."

Doctor and Hero then realized: the bed's mechanism had malfunctioned! They hurriedly searched for the switch on either side of the bed. Heroine, afraid of embarrassing Doctor, ran over and lifted Beauty Yellow off the bed.

博士和男婴没能分析出这张蹦蹦床的机械原理，就问去脱蓑衣返回来的牛郎。牛郎就讲述了这张床的来历。武汉军区博物馆的朋友听说我要给孩子造摇篮，就告诉我他们的博物馆里有一件奇怪的宝床，是太乙真人为女娲剧组造的。

Doctor and Hero failed to decipher the mechanical principles of this bouncing bed, so they asked the Cowboy who had just returned from removing his straw cloak. Cowboy then recounted the bed's origins. Friends at the Wuhan Military Region Museum, upon hearing I intended to build a cradle for my child, informed me their museum housed a peculiar treasure bed—crafted by Taiyi Real Man for Nuwa’s Troupe.

牛郎说：“军区博物馆的朋友说，太乙真人造出这张床后没说是干什么用的，只说二郎神知道。太乙真人离开后，我们典兵整理他的遗物时又发现了这张床，就去问二郎神。二郎神请尧皇帮忙，他们俩为我们表演这张床的功能（参见4.4 《自由恋爱》）。后来去典兵部的人看见了这张床，都要躺在上面试一试它的弹力。我们怕这张床被用坏了，就让人仿造了一张放在了典兵部，把这张由太乙真人造的原件送到了军区博物馆保存。”

Cowboy said, "Our friends at the military museum said that after Taiyi Real Man made this bed, he didn't say what it was for, only that Second Wolf God. After Taiyi Real Man left, we soldiers found this bed again when we were sorting through his belongings, so we asked Second Wolf God. Second Wolf God asked White-king Yao for help, and the two of them demonstrated the function of this bed for us (see 4.4 Naturally Falling in Love). Later, when people went to the Ministry of Codex Soldier saw this bed, they all wanted to lie on it and test its elasticity. We were afraid that this bed would be damaged, so we had someone make a replica and put it in the Ministry of Codex Soldier, and sent the original made by Taiyi Real Man to the military museum for preservation."

牛郎继续说：“他们都没分析出这张床的工作原理，我也没分析出来。我就只是仿造了一张给孩子们玩。造这床的竹竿可贵了，十文钱一根。”

男婴说：“十文钱一根，不是很贵！”

Cowboy continued, "None of them figured out how this bed works, and neither did I. I just made a replica for the children to play with. The bamboo poles used to make this bed are expensive, ten coins each."

Hero said, "Ten coins each, not expensive at all!"

牛郎说：“十文钱一根很贵呀！我小时候有两年时间梦想着能拥有一根这样的竹竿，最终没能实现。这竹竿有三个优点和一赌（参见10.10 《心账竹竿》）！”

娥黄插嘴道：“赌！太好了，上次我赌这竹竿折不断，从女婴那里赢了300两银子！”

Cowboy said, "Ten coins a piece is very expensive! When I was a child, I dreamed of owning a bamboo pole like this for two years, but I never got the chance. This bamboo pole has three advantages and one bet (see 10.10 ‘Heart-Account Bamboo Pole’)!"

Beauty Yellow interjected, "A bet! That's great! Last time I bet this bamboo pole wouldn't break, and I won 300 taels of silver from Heroine!"

 

11.7 三女捐金Three Women Donate Gold

话说小龙女（即夏娃，舜，嫘，如图1至6）和娥黄到尧皇的办公室工作几年后，发现了一种赚钱的买卖。她们俩和女婴商议：“我们俩负责研究城市规划，房地产行情，和找买家，你负责去取钱，把钱送到古墓的金库里。以后我们三人平分利润，每人分得三分之一。”

After working in Emperor (White king) Yao's office for several years, Little Dragoness (also known as Eve, Shun, and Lei, as shown in Figures 1 to 6) and Beauty Yellow discovered a lucrative business opportunity. They proposed to Heroine: “We'll handle researching urban planning, real estate trends, and finding buyers. You'll be responsible for retrieving the money and delivering it to the ancient tomb's treasury. From now on, the three of us will split the profits equally—each receiving one-third.”

开始时，女婴去到指定的地点，拿起钱袋子就走。随后她打开袋子看，里面全是黄金，很高兴。几次之后，女婴害怕了，悄悄地问娥黄：“这买卖合法吗？怎么不通过银行转账啊？”

娥黄回答：“那是我和舜王向买家要的辛苦费，额外收入，不能通过银行转账。”

女婴表示不想干了。

娥黄承诺：最后做三次，就停手。

At first, Heroine went to the designated spot, picked up the money bag, and left. Later, she opened the bag to find it filled with gold, which delighted her. After several such transactions, she grew fearful and quietly asked Beauty Yellow, “Is this deal legal? Why not just transfer the money through the bank?”

Beauty Yellow replied, “That's the extra fee King Shun and I charged buyers for our trouble—additional income that can't be transferred through banks.”

Heroine indicated she didn't want to do it anymore.

Beauty Yellow promised: “Just three more times, then we'll stop.”

每次女婴在夜里坐渡船送钱去古墓，她哥哥江南鹤都会带着人护送她。江南鹤对女婴说：“我听到一些传言，你的名声不太好。”

舜王和娥黄就这样不停地做房地产生意。

Every time Heroine took the night ferry to deliver money to the ancient tomb, her brother River South Crane would escort her with his men. River South Crane said to Heroine, “I've heard some rumors—your reputation isn't very good.”

King Shun and Beauty Yellow thus kept engaging in real estate business.

一天夜里，女婴又送钱去古墓，在树林子里遇见她哥哥江南鹤了。江南鹤对女婴说：“我听说你都不看你拿的袋子里装的是什么，也不称重。那你收钱，既不看也不称重，那怎么能行呢！？”

女婴回答：“我没带称。”

江南鹤说：“我的马上有个便携式弹簧秤，可以送给你。我和你成为舜王的保镖之后，我的买卖越做越大，赚的钱越来越多，可我金库里的钱越来越少，现在就只剩下以前的六分之一了。”

One night, Heroine went to deliver money to the ancient tomb again and encountered her brother, River South Crane, in the woods. River South Crane said to her, “I hear you never look at what's inside the bags you carry, nor do you weigh them. How can you possibly collect money without checking or weighing it?”

Heroine replied, “I didn't bring a scale.”

River South Crane said, “I have a portable spring scale on my horse, which I can give to you. After becoming bodyguards for King Shun, my business grew larger, and I earned more money. Yet the wealth in my treasury kept dwindling. Now it's only one-sixth of what it used to be.”

女婴说：“那这120公斤黄金给你充实金库吧！今晚就不用去江北了。”

江南鹤说：“我不是在向你要钱！”

女婴回答：“我知道！哥，你放心，我要是以后被我师傅二郎神抓住了，即便要判我死刑，我也不会把今天的事说出去。”

Herine said, “Then let these 120 kilograms of gold fill your treasury! We won't need to go to River North tonight.”

River South Crane replied, “I'm not asking you for money!”

Heroine answered, “I know! Brother, rest assured. If my teacher-father Second Wolf God ever captures me in the future, even if he sentences me to death, I won't reveal what happened today.”

江南鹤问：“那你的账本怎么写啊？”

女婴回答：“我没记账！这都是我们犯罪的证据，我记它干啥！？”

River South Crane asked, “Then how did you keep your accounts?”

Heroine replied, “I didn't keep any accounts! This is all evidence of our crimes—why would I record it!?”

一天，娥黄和女婴来到古墓，说是要结账。娥黄去后院的仓库找出了 “心账竹竿” （参见10.10节），向女婴要300两银子。女婴回答：“走，咱俩去金库！我给你300两银子。”

One day, Beauty Yellow and Heroine came to the ancient tomb, saying they wanted to settle their accounts. Beauty Yellow went to the warehouse in the backyard and found the "heart account bamboo pole" (see section 10.10), asking Heroine for 300 taels of silver. Heroine replied, "Come on, let's go to the vault! I'll give you 300 taels of silver."

女婴从金库回来后，拿着 “心账竹竿”对牛郎说：“我记得我把这根竹竿拿到过厨房三次，让你烧了，每次你都没烧。我教会了你中华武术基本功的全部108式，也算是你的师傅吧！这些年你总是喝我狗葫芦里的酒，我就喝过你几口料酒。我的心里不平衡，你说该怎么办吧？”

After Heroine returned from the vault, she held up the "heart-ledger bamboo pole" and said to the Cowboy, "I remember taking this bamboo pole to the kitchen three times, and to let you burn it, but you never did. I taught you all 108 basic moves of Chinese martial arts, so I guess I'm your teacher! All these years you've always drunk the alcohol from my Dog Gourd, while I've only had a few sips of your cooking alcohol. I'm resentful; what are you going to do about it?”

牛郎回答：“我记得，但每次我要烧这根竹竿的时候，它就不见了。我最有钱的时候，总共才有15两银子。现在我只有五两了，都给你吧！”

女婴生气地回答：“你以为我是在打劫你吗？”

小龙女对女婴说：“我替牛郎陪你银子。走，我们俩去金库，我给你300两银子。”娥黄叨咕着：“我也去，你们俩别想偷我的银子！”

Cowboy replied, "I remember, but it disappeared every time I tried to burn this bamboo pole. At my richest, I only had 15 taels of silver. Now I only have five taels left, you can have it all!"

Heroine angrily retorted, "Do you think I'm robbing you?"

Little Dragoness said to Heroine, "I'll compensate you for the silver on behalf of Cowboy. Come on, let's go to the vault, I'll give you 300 taels of silver."

Beauty Yellow muttered, "I'm going too, you two can't steal my silver!"

牛郎把饭做好后，去金库叫她们三人回屋吃饭。金库里的人回答：“知道了！”

饭菜凉了，牛郎把饭菜烧热后，又去金库招呼她们三人吃饭。她们只是回答：“知道了！”

几次后，小龙女变得不耐烦了，说：“进来吧！”

After preparing the meal, Cowboy went to the vault to call the three women back to the house for dinner. The people in the treasury replied, “Got it!”

The food became cold. After reheating the meal, Cowboy went back to the treasury to summon them again. They merely answered, “Got it!”

After several such exchanges, Little Dragoness grew impatient and snapped, “Just come in!”

牛郎进了金库，发现满屋地的金锭和银锭。原来她们三人分钱的时候，由于金锭和银锭堆得太高，塌了。金库里的通风不好，头顶弥漫着蜡烛的烟。牛郎大声说：“这屋子通风不好，把鼻孔都熏黑了！”

女婴立刻站起来了，大声说，：“紧急撤离！”三个女人都跑出了金库。

Cowboy entered the treasury and found the floor covered with gold and silver ingots. It turned out that when the three women were dividing the money, the piles of ingots had collapsed under their own weight. The poor ventilation in the vault filled the air with candle smoke. Cowboy shouted, “This room's ventilation is terrible—it's blackening my nostrils!”

Heroine immediately stood up and yelled, “Emergency evacuation!” All three women fled the vault.

三个女人看着满桌子饭菜，谁也不吃。牛郎看这三个女人在打架，就没去睡觉，躲在厨房里听声。
