The Hours/Nicole Kidman

Liu's story brought me to see The Hours, a film that won Nicole Kidman an Academy Award, but most movie critics are slowly forgetting about it. But I saw that movie for the first time recently, and it is probably my favorite Nicole Kidman film. She's had a very strong career since."

Dropseed: The Story of Three Sad Women... if you love The Hours, you'll like this novel. It gave me the same feelings. I forgot the author's name. But the beautiful writing in "Dropseed" brought me back to re-watching all these scenes.

They are talented, amazing actors: Salma Hayek (Frida), Nicole Kidman (The Hours), Diane Lane (Unfaithful), Julianne Moore (Far From Heaven), Renee Zellweger (Chicago)... all GREAT, talented actresses!!! ? Must be a tough choice!!!

https://youtube.com/shorts/VY5VnS-jLNs?si=OSH3b5KSMEa9ENql So love that Nicole’s Mum and Dad were there for that wonderful moment!

Nicole Kidman had been going through hell during her divorce from TC, and she poured her heart and soul into her work. Hence, she won an Academy Award for her role!! Well done

"I love the movie. Virginia Woolf was an idol to me, and I never thought I'd be inspired by her this much through this film. Nicole Kidman is exceptional; she's unrecognizable, and she shines brightly in this film, as do Julianne Moore and Meryl. What can I say, but Nicole Kidman deserves her Academy Award for this, with or without Harvey Weinstein and Miramax. The score is also superb to the point that I made it my background music  when I'm writing lol."

"The poet will die, the visionary"—Virginia Woolf, The Hours

"Nobody has ever given a reason why men should be their brother's keepers, and you've had every example, and you see the examples around you, of men perishing by the attempt to be their brother's keepers" --Ayn Rand, Mike Wallace Interview 1959

The Hours chronicles a day in the life of three very different individuals, all of whom share the feeling that they have been living their lives for someone else.

Virginia Woolf (Nicole Kidman) lives in a suburb of London in the 1920s as she struggles to begin writing her first great novel, Mrs. Dalloway, while also attempting to overcome the mental illness that threatens to engulf her.

Laura Brown (Julianne Moore), a young wife and mother in post-World War II Los Angeles, is reading Mrs. Dalloway, and is so deeply affected by it that she begins to question the life she has chosen for herself.

Finally, Clarissa Vaughan (Meryl Streep) is a modern-day Mrs. Dalloway in contemporary New York, planning a party for her friend and former lover who is slowly losing his fight with AIDS.

Why is The Hours (2002) my favorite movie? "Well? So, that is what we do. That is what people do. They stay alive for each other." Gets me every time. Thanks for this. "Happiness comes in moments, not months."  "My life has been stolen from me. It's my LIFE"-- Famous Author. @greatsewing6061

Overcast...Uninvolving... These actors do not interact... They deliver individual soliloquies as if they had never met before each scene....
Does Jeff Daniels look like he ever had anything to do with Ed Harris...?
Or does Meryl Streep look like she ever had anything to do with her lover or her daughter?
Only the music is good...Loved the novel... adore the opera... but not this film... 5 times I have watched it...It does not click.

Three women, separated by a span of nearly 80 years, find themselves weathering similar crises, all linked by a single work of literature.

You have to date yourself: self-partnership. A woman with no friends or a tiny circle isn't a red flag... she's mastered herself.

"Some people live a lifetime in a minute." One of the best quotes in this movie.  Her voice is sparkling ("Donna" —Actress: Gabrielle Anwar—that woman is the epitome of grace, style, and class), and her demeanor is so exquisite; she's sweet and refined indeed. <<Scent of a Woman>> is such a remarkable movie! I just realized this entire movie is named after this one scene.

Gabrielle Anwar was truly gorgeous; she has such a soft, gentle aura in this movie. Gabrielle Anwar is a British-American actress who is most famous for dancing the tango with Al Pacino in the 1992 film Scent of a Woman. She was 22 years old at the time. She is 56 today.

Yes, the character is blind (though neither actor Vittorio Gassmann in Profumo di neither Donna nor actor Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman is really blind). ;)

Pacino, who won his Oscar for this role, is an institution. Pacino absolutely deserved the Oscar for this performance. Outstanding movie!

The moment: When she says "afraid of making a mistake" and quickly glances over to Charlie, that's all it takes! The actress is very convincing. Just the right amount of feeling and restraint, you might have when meeting a charming stranger.
