"Eat humble pie" is an English idiom meaning to face humiliation and subsequently apologize for a serious mistake, after being overconfident or mistaken. It implies a forced, humbling admission of error.
Origin:
The phrase originates from 14th-century England, deriving from "umble pie," a dish made from the edible internal organs (offal) of animals, which was traditionally served to servants. Over time, "umble" was misheard as "humble," shifting the meaning to represent bowing down or admitting fault.
Usage Examples:
"After his prediction proved totally wrong, he had to eat humble pie and apologize".
"The arrogant team was forced to eat humble pie after losing the final match".
ps. Note this idiom has an American sibling: "Eat crow".

Upon seeing "Britain the armpit of the globe" from 7G the other day, I suddenly remembered Brexit six years ago. What happened after that and how are they doing? I wondered.
So I went to good helper Google and found the facts quickly:
"Brexit has significantly impacted the UK economy, with research suggesting a long-term reduction in GDP of 6% to 8% by 2025. Leaving the EU introduced trade barriers, contributing to a 15% drop in total trade and causing labor shortages. The economic fallout includes slower wage growth, decreased investment, and persistent inflation, making the UK a laggard in post-pandemic recovery. "
Ahh, maybe it's about time for the UK to "eat humble pie"? Sigh ... ...
Going back to normal people with normal lives, I'd rather to admit and apologize for my own mistake as soon as I realize it, than to eat humble pie (or crow :-) later.
Hope you have some good (not humble) pie for the coming Easter weekend!
